The Parking Garage Pucker Factor

Kinja'd!!!

I drive a truck. Not a bro truck, but a 4x4 F-150. Stock-ish tires, no lift, etc. At least once per month, I have to go to a meeting where I have to park in a garage that my truck BARELY fits into, height-wise. And every time I pull in, the pucker factor is turned up to 11.

I use my truck for truck things on the weekends, so don't judge. But it is, of course, my DD. I've gone into this garage probably 50 times. Every time, I illogically sweat it. That big, heavy ass, scuffed up round bar that will slam into your roof line if your truck is too tall is foreboding. I just keep saying "please don't hit please don't hit please don't hit."

I can't wait until I trade my truck in for a fast car. Then all I'll have to worry about are speed bumps, curbs, road debris... Everything I don't worry about now.

I'm only judging because it's not an F-250.

I'm driving home tonight 3 inches taller than when I left, and I had 5 inches to spare in my garage, I know the feel.

I remember driving my old G10 work van in a garage many years ago. I sat hunched over the steering wheel, as if ducking down would make the van shorter.

When my dad has to go downtown for stuff, he has to borrow my mom's car because his truck doesn't fit in parking garages. Some of them are so low it doesn't feel like her car will make it in either.

I hate parking garages.

I don't have a logical reason to have a 250. As soon as I buy a piece of land, however, hello 3/4 ton King Ranch diesel 4x4!!!

I MIGHT have 1.5" to spare pulling into the garage. Let's just say that my antenna is constantly smacking into water pipes as I drive around in there.

I remember the week after my dad got a new Avalanche he ripped one of those must be below this height signs off. Still makes me chuckle to this day.

Lol, thats true, having a any car if you want to keep it in good shape, you need to be aware of all of those.

I've actually bumped into one once. Another garage that has no business being built in Texas where so many people drive trucks. No damage, but I may or may not have shit my pants a little.

When I had my lowered Silverado I took it through a tight downtown parking garage once. NEVER AGAIN. If it wasn't for the fear of having enough room to make turns (ext cab shortbox) it was the fear of high-siding the frame on the drastic drops when heading down to the next level.

6 foot? Yeah I'd have to take the rubber off my wheels and just go in with rims to fit my truck in there. I pucker at 7'2" (mind you that is after I took the roof rack of so I could fit the truck in the garage to do some work on it). With the roof rack my truck is at 7'8".

Now: Curb? Big deal, I'll go over it. Speed bump? FULL SPEED AHEAD!! Road debris? Just aim so it flows under the truck. No problem.

In a year: Any if those? EVASIVE ACTION!!!

That's not the actual garage in the pic I'm talking about, but I did notice the 6' nothing" clearance on that. Was it built in 1850, when people were all 5'4"?!

Yeah, it's a bit tight for turns, too. The spots are cozy as well. I have to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL making maneuvers.

Possibly, or it's in England where people are still 5'4.

That's a nice truck. I'd be more concerned with length than height, but parking garages suck for any truck.

Yeah, thats pretty much me when i see blown tires on the highway. And watch for the yellow blocks or tubes in front of every parking space.

4 inches of lift and 2" of tire later...well good thing I have a whip CB antenna

Thank you. In my normal parking garage (where it is now), I have plenty of room. The architects must have realized that we drive them pick-em-up trucks around hurr. In others, though... Thank God for parking sensors.

Same, my work garage is tiny. It's got one of those winding ramps which are super skinny. I've seen trucks and vans scraping on them all the time.

I'd go down that ramp at 1 MPH. Honk all you want, NOPE.

Seriously, it blows my mind that home garages are built in Texas that aren't long enough to fit an F-150, let alone parking garages that are too short. My buddy had an F-250 with a little bit of a lift, and he had to find a parking lot downtown to park in because he couldn't fit into any garage.

I DD a Sequoia and I have the same issues you do with height... and then another one is they charge extra for oversized vehicles. I went into a parking garage recently cause my phone said their rates were VERY reasonable... but the guy told me "We charge $45 for oversized vehicles." "Even if I am here for only 2 hours?" "Yes." "Let me out." *burnout ragequit*

Yep! I told them "I've gone to other places in NYC and they charge me $5 for oversized vehicles. Get real." Obviously I didn't pay.

That's why I can't have a brush guard on my truck; I'd run the pay station over if I was quoted that price.
